"Get going?" Max finished for her. "That's a great idea Jodi."

Jodi grinned and sank down in her seat. Well, seeing as how I've already gotten the falling over out of the way and the incoherent babble finished then maybe the rest of the night will go the way we planned.

Max began searching his pockets, wondering why he hadn't just put the key in his ignition before! He tried desperately to think of some conversation topic. "So what's been going on with you?" was all that managed to come out.

"Same thing as was this morning when I was hanging out with all of you,'' Jodi said, not catching until it was to late that he was trying to make conversation. "Of course, I've been busy practicing for the next X-Games of course."

"Really?" Max perked up, finally a conversation they would both enjoy. "I hadn't seen you at practice recently, I thought you had forgotten about the games or maybe you were to busy partying."

"You know I always invite you to the parties, don't feel sad Max." She said hugging the boy, instantly feeling very awkward. "But, yeah. I've actually been doing extreme study sessions with the Cor-girl. She says that if I want to be allowed to compete in the games I have to be passing. I think that's just her way of saying 'you'd better pass.'"

Max laughed. "That's all of our ways to say you'd better pass. You don't want to just be a student forever." Max started the engine of his car, holding his breathe in hopes that it would actually start, and releasing it when it did. You really never know when it has anything to do with his life. "So...I guess we'll leave then..."

"You don't know that," Jodi said in response to the student comment. "Me and Crawl have it all planned, we stay at college forever and rule the school eventually!" The car lurched forward and she instinctively grabbed the armrest, she was more of a walking or skating kind of person, not so much the vehicles.

Max's arm instinctively put his arm across her to hold her back to the chair, his car was always very touchy about taking off. After a few moments driving like this he finally realized just what an awkward position he was in. "Um...sorry..." he whispered.

"No big, no big," she said catching her breath. "No wonder you got this car so cheap," she smiled at him. "If mine did this I would sell it to."

"Well," Max said. "Your car is technically your feet, and they do move like this, so I supposed you should go return them!"

Jodi laughed awkwardly and leaned her head back. "This is so weird..." she said. "When we hang out it's fine, but now it's...awkward..."

"I was just about to say the same thing..." Max cringed. This was not the best way to spend the first part of a first date, discussing how not right the first date was going. "But come on, Jods, we've always been this way. If we don't get over the awkwardness everyone is going to tie us together and force us to!"
